REPUBLIC MONUMENT AT NARAYANHITI

Kathmandu, 17 March: A republic monument will b erected at Narayanhiti, the residence of the former Shah kings now declared a national museum after the 238-year-old dynasty that founded the dynasty and unified modern Nepal was topple four years ago.
The cabinet Friday directed the finance ministry to set aside money for erection b of the monument on the eastern side of the old palace spread over 82-ropanis land
The immediate plan to erect the at the Ratna Park never took off.

SPECIAL COMMITTEE MEETS AGAIN SUNDAY

Kathmandu, 17 March: A special committee for the integration nd supervision of former Maoist fighters Maoist fighters headed by
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai will meet again Sunday after an
inconclusive meet Friday.
Inconclusive discussions were held for the second time on new
proposal of the premier for the integration of 9,900 plus former PLA fighters although an agreement between says only 6,5000 will be integrated in the Nepal Army. (NA).
The proposal has been rejected by the two major opposition parties nA and UML.
Maoists said their demand for appointment of a brigadier general in a directorate in the state army was ‘bottom line’ and non-negotiable.
Opposition rejected the demand offering fighters top rank of a major in a directly under NA and not a separate body.

GOVT.INVITES UN CHIEF

Kathmandu, 17 March: Government has officially invited UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who’s coming on a visit of India and
Myanmar in the region as well.
Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai sent the invitation on behalf of the government even as his party UCPN (Maoist) Chief Prachanda first announced the likely visit amid protests of some parties, including
main opposition NC which has come out against the visit.
Prachanda is active with a committee he heads to welcome Ban on his first Nepal visit and take the visitor to Lumbini , the birthplace of The
Buddha for an international conference to develop it.
The UNchief is expected to arrive 28 April
Prachanda is attempting to take a lead in arranging the UN chief Nepal’ activities as head of the Lumbini development committee heads.
The committee hopes to take Ban Ki-moon to Lumbini to participate
in an international conference the following day following day for is development and peace.
NC President Sushil Koirala asked Bn not to visit Nepal until the delayed peace process in completed; UN abandoned the process and quit Nepal in the middle January 2011.
"Until the peace process completes, it is not proper for him to pay a visit to Nepal. It is attached with the image of UN itself" he said.
