GOVT, REGISTERS AMENDMENT TO CONSTITUTION Kathmandu, 22 April: Government registered a bill in parliament Sunday to amend Article 70 of an interim constitution to shorten a process to approve a constitution Each and every article of a proposed constitution has to be put to vote and approved by a two-third majority by the 601-member parliament under article of the 70 of the basic law. Parties agreed to amend the article to facilitate the passage of a constitution by adopting a shorter process though an amendment. Through the amendment, a constitution or articles can be approved can be adopted by two-third majority without voting for each article. nnnn DISTRICT COURT WITHDRAWS MURDER CASE ON GOVT. REQUEST . Kathmandu, 22 April: The Chitwan District Court has withdrawn the murder case filed against 12 person arrested on the charge of their involvement in the murder of Sanjay Lama on Sunday, RSS reports from Bhitwan. The Court withdrew the case as per the request of the government. District Judge Bholanath Chaulagain issued an order in this regard here today. Lama was shot dead at Kerabari of Kavilash VDC in the district on Bhadra 10, 2068. Among the 12 accused in the murder, Shiva Poudel, attacked inside the prison, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu. Similarly, Pramis Rai, Hari Tamang, Raju Gurung, Yam Bahadur Karki, Anil Pariyar and Raj Kumar Lama are in prison while Rijan Kandel, Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Surendra Gurung, Suresh Gurung and Yu Kumar Gurung have been absconding after the murder. With the order, all of their case has been withdrawn. Record keeper at the district court, Din Bandhu Baral said the Ministry of Law and Justice, Office of the Attorney General, and Office of the District Attorney had requested the district court to withdraw the case as per the government decision of Fagun 15, 2068. Nnnn MUSLIMS SEEK PROTECTION OF IDENTITY Kathmandu, 22 April: Chairman of UCPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the new constitution is not possible by ignoring the Muslim community and pledged to guarantee their rights in the constitution. Receiving a memorandum submitted by the National Muslim Struggle Committee today, Dahal expressed his commitment to ensure rights of the Muslim community by recognizing their identity in the new constitution. A team of Muslim leaders led by Mohammad Rijwan Ansari drew Chairman Dahal's attention, saying that rights of Muslim communities were never addressed in the country's constitutional history. The memo has demanded to ensure identity of the Muslim community, form a constitutional Muslim commission, mention about Muslims' rights along with the rights of women and Dalit under the fundamental rights and others nnnn
