PARTIES AGREE TO SHORTEN PROCESS TO APPROVE PASSAGE OF BILLS
Kathmandu, 18 April: A meeting of the Big Three and a front of the
Madeshbadi parties immediately after the two-day extended inter and intra-party discussions was inconclusive Wednesday, April 18, 2012
A breakthrough was expected at the meeting of top leaders of the parties.
Maoist Chairman Prachanda and NC President Sushil Koirala absented themselves from the meeting.
But the parties agreed to amend the e Article 70 of the Interim Constitution to
shorten the process to approve articles in a proposed basic law and to prepare a bill for it.
The article says each article has to be approved by a two-third majority majporityin the 601-member constituent assembly.
Amendment to the article will short the passage of articles together but still
by two-third majority
Bills on formation of truth and reconciliation commissions and disappeared
persons are also being prepared though the matter come up for detailed discussions Wednesday.
NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel said the parties will meet again Thursday.
