VOTER ID CARDS ISSUED TO 10.2M PERSONS
Kathmandu, 12 April: The Election Commission (EC) has said 10.2 million plus people appeared for the biometric voter´s identity card
so far, RSS reports.
Among 10,231,000 Nepalis who developed their biometric voter´s identity card, 53 per cent are women.
The EC has estimated that the total number of voters account for 55 per cent of the total population. However, 3 to 3.5 million people were still deprived of voter´s identity card due to various reasons.
Considering those who are yet to register their names for voter´s identity card, the EC has continued the voter registration in all 75 districts and even verified in all except Banke district.
In the second round, the EC has been preparing to recheck the names by publishing the voters´ lists from April 15 and continue it for a month.
Similarly, the EC said it imparted a bridge training of international standard to 900 people from political parties, civil society and women´s organizations. Even the preparation was afoot to collect information about the voting centres through the geographical-information system.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner, Nil Kanth Upreti, said the EC was preparing itself to hold two elections in the coming fiscal year.
To make the election free and fair, electronic voting machine would be used, he said.
Joint Secretary at the Election Commission, Sharada Prasad Trital presented the progress report about the biometric voter registration -2068. He added that the biometric voter´s list was printed and sent to all the districts for publication.
