PRACHANDA THREATENS NEW ROUND OF WAR OR MAHABHARAT
Kathmandu, 16 June: Maoist Chairman Friday again threatened to unleash a new round of war from Open Air Theatre after failure by major parties to promulgate a constitution by the 27 May deadline.
“This mammoth meeting today is not the beginning of a Mahabharat. It’s
an attempt to stop a Mahabharat, This could be a final preparation for a Mahabharat if parties and leaders don’t abandon their stances and come to a modern agreement,” Prachanda warned.
He called for an agreement.
Attempt to draft a constitution shouldn’t start from ground zero, he said
after four years of failed effort to institutionalize a declared republic.
‘A CA should promulgate a constitution and not from outside. Discussions for a new constitution should start from where discussions were last left,” he suggested.
Prime Minister Naburam Bhattarai asked opposition parties ‘not to take unconstitutional means’ from the same forum.
“After dislodging the president, they will attempt to revive the1990
constitution.. Then they will bring the former king from Nagarjung to Narahanhiti,”
Bhattarai said referring to likely opposition moves in the future.
