DFID TOLD NOT TO FORMENT COMMUNAL DISCONTENT
Kathmandu, 5 June: GFID, a British government donor agency, is under tremendous pressure not to support projects in Nepal that would foment communal
discontent and hatred towards certain section of the society. The Reporter writes.
DFID office in the Umited Kingdom is believed to have taken note of the
concern, and asked its office in Kathmandu not to support ‘controversial
projects’ . The recent directive from the DFID headquarters comes in the
wake of wide scale resentment in Nepal over DFID’s financial support
ostensibly for ‘ethnic empowerment’ that is snow-balling into social
tension.
Some upper caste’ Hindu groups have been openly complaining that
UNDP resident office, DFID, embassy of Norway, Denmark and
Switzerland are funding and supporting various ethnic groups pursuing ethnic or caste-based politics.
