UML CHAIRMAN KHANAL CALLS FOR CONSENSUS GOVT. Kathmandu, 22 June: Chairman of the CPN (UML) Jhala Nath Khanal said the national consensus government was only alternative to the current political Impasse, RSS reports. Inaugurating the Second Convention of UML's Constituency No. 3 which began here today, he claimed that Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was to blame for derailing the national consensus, adding Dr. Bhattarai should step down from his post to forge environment of national political consensus. UML Chairman Khanal stressed on the unity among the political parties to resolve the current political crisis in the country and said the only alternative to end the government-less situation was forming a national consensus government. Former Prime Minister Khanal alleged that the Unified CPN (Maoist) has led the nation towards conflict saying the election of the constituent assembly announced by the current government was not a wise decision. He added that talking about people’s revolt by Baidya led CPN, Maoist emerging from the separation of the UCPN-Maoist is impossible. During the programme, UML Politburo member duo Pashupati Chaulagain and Keshav Badal, among other leaders, urged the party cadres to strengthen party organizations. Nnnn SUSHIL;KOIRALA SAYS DEMOCRACY PREREQUISITE FOR DEVELOPMENT AMID DEFECTIONS TO PARTY Kathmandu, 22 June: President of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala has said that consensus, co-work, unity and reconciliation could only save the country from crisis, RSS reports. Welcoming various leaders and cadres of different parties to his party at his residence at Maharajgunj, today, Koirala said that speedy development of the country will only be possible if we move ahead by giving stability to democracy. Pointing out to the danger of country becoming unstable if the current constitutional and legal crisis are to continue, Koirala expressed the view that the current political stalemate will not be in favour of any party. On the occassion, Koirala welcomed central advisor of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik), KB Bhandari and 31 Myagdi district leaders and cadres of CPN-UML including Bhawa Bahadur Bhandari, Sudeep Shahi, Toran Shahi, among others by offering tika of vermillion. nnnn DEUBA ALSO URGES NATIONAL CONSENSUS Kathmandu, 22 June:: Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba stressed the need on forming the national consensus government to write the new constitution, RSS reports. Inaugurating the national gathering of the Federation of Non-governmental Organization here today, he said it is irrational to claim leadership by the Unified CPN (Maoist) saying it was the biggest political party as the nation was remained in the constitution less condition for the last four years. He added that the constitution should be written only after the formation of the national consensus government. He appreciated the non-government organizations’ role saying they are direct and effective medium to reach people. He added that it is necessary to make the NGOs effective in the present situation when the NGOs are stronger than the government. Similarly, NC leader Dr. Ram Sharamn Mahat stressed the need for running the NGO activities in democratic systems and procedures. Dr. Mahat claimed that the donor agencies in the country has encouraged the politics of separation in the name of carrying out researches and analyze the life and culture of various indigenous communities and said the nation should be alert from such activities. Chairman of the organization Dr. Balgopal Baidya, central member Ramesh Dhamala, Ashok Yogi among others said only the fewer programmes were taken to grassroots stressing NGOs should not be run under the party influence. Representatives from some 60 districts have been participating in the gathering, it is learnt. nnnn
