PM BHATTARAI’S UNPRECEDENTED TRACTOR TRAVEL Kathmandu, 17 Aug.: For the first time an incumbent prime minister was shown in newspaper pictures plashed Friday riding a trailer of a tractor with aides abd security personnel crossing a swollen Kayar river in Chitwan to visit a Chepang village in the central district. Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai crossed the river in a trailer pulled by a tractor to spend a night this week with some members of the community to learn of their difficulties and wants this week. No other sitting prime minister has traveled has vehicle used by plebeians amid threats to their lives, especially during the rainy reason. PM Bhattarai gave Rs.10,000 to a naked Chepang living in a cave; he decided to spend the night with Chepangs after newspapers published photographs of the naked forest dweller. Girija Prasad Koirala is the only prime minister who drove around in a green Willis US jeep after multi-party democracy was restored in 1990. All other premiers walked .the streets until they assumption of office. What Premier Bhattarai did this week was unprecedented.
