AT LEAST 25 NEPALI, EUROPEAN CLIMBERS MISSING ON MANASLU UPDATE Kathmandu, 23 Sept.: At least 25 foreign and national climbers have gone missing in an avalanche in Manaslu peak in Gorkha district. Of them, bodies of nine have been found, said former chairman of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) Ang Tsering Sherpa. The avalanche took place at an altitude of 7,000 meters of the 8,156 m peak at 9:00 am today. Four helicopters of Simrik Air and Fishtail Air with 12 rescuers have been dispatched to the site for rescue of the victims, it is learnt. According to executive chief of Himalayan Rescue Association Prakash Adhikari, the Tourism Industry Division under the Ministry of Tourism is cooperating with the rescue operation.The missing climbers are Germans, Italians and French citizens and Sherpa guides. nnnn FLASH FLOOD KILLS CONSTRUCTION WORKERS REMOTE INDIAf Kathmandu, 23 Sept.: A flash flood triggered by torrential rain has killed at least nine construction workers and left 15 others missing and feared dead in India’s remote Northeast, AP reports from Gauhati.. Karma Zyatso, chief secretary of Sikkim state, says the workers, who lived in camps, were swept away by the swirling waters of a flooded river Friday in Chungthan, a small town in the mountainous region. Zyatso said Sunday that authorities had recovered nine bodies and were searching for the 15 missing workers, who were building roads. He also said helicopters dropped food supplies to nearly 10,000 people living in six villages cut off due to damage to the main highway in the area, about 550 kilometers (310 miles) west of Gauhati, the capital of Assam state. nnnn
