BRITISH ARMY CHIEF ARRIVES ON SIX-DAY VISIT Kathmandu, 17 Nov :: Chief of the General Staff of British Army, General Sir Peter Wall arrived here Friday, leading a two-member delegation at the formal invitation of Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gaurav Shumser JB Rana, RSS reports. Chief of General Staff Nepal Bhusan Chand was at the Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome General Sir Peter Wall. General Wall is scheduled to attend a programme to be organised by the British Gorkhas Nepal on Saturday. He is also the Colonel Commander of Brigade of Gurkhas and Chairman of British Army Gurkhas´ Welfare Trust. As per the schedule, he will pay a courtesy call on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Dr Baburam Bhattarai and CoAS Rana. Wall is scheduled to return home on November 20, the Directorate said. Meanwhile, CoAS Rana and Lieutenant Gen Kenneth J Glueck of US Marine Expedition Force had a courtesy meeting today. On the occasion, Chief of General Staff Chand, Chief of Staff Netra Bahadur Thapa, and Major General Pawan Bahadur Pandey were present. During the meeting, matters relating to mutual interests were discussed. Similarly, Lt. Gen Glueck visited the Birendra Military Hospital, Chhauni this afternoon. He arrived in the capital along with his spouse on Thursday and is scheduled to return home on coming Sunday, said the Nepal Army Public Relations Directorate. Nnnn COMBAT DRESS FOR PUBLIC BANNED Kathmandu, 17 Nov.: The government has prohibited the general public and private security companies from wearing combat dresses and insignias used by the government security bodies, RSS reports.. In a press statement today, the Ministry of Home Affairs has said that it has totally banned the use of combat dresses and insignias by the general public and private companies, citing for controlling its misuse. "Cases of swindling and looting by misusing combat dress were reported in the past and the Ministry has decided to ban its use by the public to avert such cases in the future", the statement adds. Besides, the incumbent government security personnel and even retired government security employees at home and abroad have not been allowed to wear combat dresses and using insignias except on duty and other government functions. "Action will be taken as per the existing law if anyone is found not abiding by this notice", the Ministry adds in the press note. nnnn
