HOME MINISTER GHIMERE, INDIAN AMBASSADOR VISIT RAJENDRA MAHOTO AT HOSPITAL Kathmandu, 25 May: Home Mnister Madhav Ghimere Saturday visited Sadbhavana Party (SP) Chief Rajendra Mahoto at Bir Hospital where he was forcibly admitted Friday by police following deteriorating in his health condition during a hunger strike pressing 10 demands. Indian Ambassador Jayant Prasad also called on Mahoto, a former minister, at the hospital and inquired about the leader’s health. nnnn POLL ONLY RESOLUTION FOR COUNTRY SAYS KHANAL Kathmandu, 25 May: Chairman of the CPN-UML, Jhalanath Khanal, has said only option we had at present was to hold election to the Constituent Assembly and rid the country from crisis, RSS reports.. He urged all parties to participate in the election. At an interaction organized by the Reporters´ Club at his residence, Dallu, today, Chairman Khanal said if it was impossible to bring all parties into consensus, those willing for consensus need to be involved in the election. "Government is deviating from its goal, so the high-level political committee is holding talks with the Chairman of the interim election council of ministers. He further said the talks he had with the CPN-Maoist and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum were very positive. Moreover, leader Khanal said the date to the CA election would be announced very soon. He stressed that one percent threshold must be devised for the coming election. Nnnn INSTABILITY HITS PEOPLE Kathmandu, 25 May: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has said that the people were bearing the brunt of unstable government as periodic elections have not been exercised in the country, RSS reports from Bhadrapur. Speaking at a press meet organised by Nepal Press Union's Jhapa Chapter here in the district on Saturday, President Koirala said election is the heart of democracy and rule of law. He stressed on incorporating CPN-Maoist and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal in the High-Level Political Mechanism. Leader Koirala argued that it would not be good to have humongous Constituent Assembly like the earlier one. "More than 491 CA members would not suit small country like ours," said Koirala. President Koirala reiterated that the political parties getting less than one percent of the total votes could not be made the CA members under the Proportional Representation system. Nnnn FIVE PERSONS ARRESTED WITH 26KG HEMP AFTER RAID ON GUEST HOUSE Kathmandu, 25 May: Five persons, including several women, were arrested Saturday with 26 kg marijuana at a guest house in Pulchowk, Chitwan.. The guest house was raided by police. nnnn UN CHIEF ALSO CALLS FOR VOTE BY REMOVING OBSTACLES Kathmandu, 25 May:: U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has asked all parties to remove the political obstacles for timely constituent assembly elections. "He urges all parties to maintain momentum by overcoming the remaining political obstacles to hold the next elections within the existing timetable of the recent 11-point agreement," a statement issued on his behalf said. “The Secretary-General expresses the continuing commitment of the United Nations to work closely with Nepal in support of the peace process,” the statement added. . nnnn
