KARKI’S APPOINTMENT CHALLENGED AT SUPREME COURT Kathmandu, 12 May: Supreme court Sunday accepted a writ filed by Kathmandu, 12 May: Advocate Om Prakash Aryal claiming LOkman Singh Karki didn’t have a 20 year experience to be CIAA chief. Aryal filed the writ against thee recommendation of the constitutional council to appoint Karki. The court registrar earlier didn’t register the public interest litigation. The move was challenged by Aryal in another writ. Maoist Chairman Prachanda Sunday reiterated his support for Karki. Nnnn WILD ELEPHANT KILLS MAN IN JHAPA Kathmandu, 12 May: An elderly woman died in an elephant attack in Jhapa district this morning, RSS reports from Jhapa.. The deceased has been identified as Krishna Kumari Rai, 84, of Budhabare-5, according to the District Forest Office, Jhapa. With this, the number of people losing their lives in elephant attack has reached seven in Jhapa district in the current fiscal year. The wild elephant attacked Rai while she was walking outside the house at 5:30 am. She died while undergoing treatment at Bhadrapur-based Mechi Zonal Hospital. Meanwhile, Rs. 50,000 will be provided to the family members of the deceased today as a relief, said Chief of the District Forest Office, Bishnu Bhandari. He said the amount is to be provided to the family of the deceased as per the policy of the government to provide Rs. 300,000 to the family of one, who loses his/her life in elephant attack, as a relief. Nnnn ANOTHER FIRE IN BANKE; LOSS RS.5M Kathmandu, 12 May: Fire has destroyed eight houses and cowsheds in Narainapur village of Narainapur VDC of Banke district this morning. The VDC is a remote VDC of the district, RSS reports from Banke.. The fire was started from a house of Taluk Khan while cooking food at 11:00 am. The fire destroyed eight houses and cowsheds of locals including Sanmulla Khan. Initiative of locals and police is underway to bring the fire under control. It is estimated that property worth around five million rupees was gutted by fire. However, details of loss caused by the fire is yet to be ascertained. nnnn
