UPDATE CHAIRMAN REGMI SAYS GOVT. COMMITTED TO MID-NOV. ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS Kathmandu, 29 May:: Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi has said the government was working with full dedication for holding the Constituent Assembly election within the third week of November, RSS report. . Addressing a function organised by the Republic Day Main Function Committee at the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel today, Chairman Regmi said the government has focused its activities on the upcoming CA election. "We would leave no stone unturned for completing our historic responsibility given by the people and have intensified consultations with the political parties to announce the election date as soon as possible", he said. Eelection-related works including the registration of biometric voters' list, distribution of citizenship certificates, were enthusiastically taking place following the formation of the election government. Besides, the Election Commission has got full shape and ordinances related to this have been promulgated," he added. Chairman Regmi said the government was holding bilateral, multilateral and all-party formal and informal talks with the political parties for creating atmosphere conducive for election and convincing them to join the election. Besides, talks and discussions about the issues of forming the Electoral Constituency Delineation Commission are underway between the government and political parties, he said, adding the government was committed to going ahead on the matters by taking an appropriate decision. Chairman Regmi reasoned the election was the sole means of maintaining political stability in the country and peaceful end of transition, stressing the need of free, fair, reliable and inclusive elections to form the Constituent Assembly acceptable to all and thereby draft a new constitution. Participation of all the citizens and their positive support is essential to build independent, integrated and democratic nation, he said, adding that heading towards the drafting of a new constitution from the CA with optimistic mind was the need of the hour. Besides, the state would take necessary steps to maintain good governance, peace, stability and for development along with its main responsibility of holding the CA election, Chairman Regmi said. President Yadav attends Republic Day main function President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav also graced the special function. On the occasion, President Dr. Yadav observed various cultural pageantries and sports items presented by the Main Function Committee, various organizations and security bodies. Present at the programme organized by the Republic Day Main Function Committee were Vice President Parmanand Jha, Chairman of the Main Function Committee and Chairman Regmi, Acting Chief Justice, heads of constitutional bodies, ministers, leaders of various political parties, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions, high ranking government officials and people of various walks of life. On the occasion, symbol of peace- a pair of pigeons were flown and republic welcome song was presented. The Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police also presented cultural items and various organizations presented their cultural pageantry. The National Sports Council organized funny sports items and helicopter had dropped flower petals by exhibiting a banner of republic. He was arrested from Sitapaila in the capital Tuesday and taken to Birgunj.. He was paraded at the Narayani Zonal Police Office . Five mobile sets, 10 SIM cards, NRs 1,73,000 and IRs 60,000 were recovered from him. nnnn
