CLASHES COTINUE IN JHAPA Kathmandu, 15 June Locals and APF personnel were injured in clashes with locals at Bahundada in Jhapa for the second consecutive day Saturday. The locals are angry they are victims of frequent attacks wild elephant herds. A district forest tem was visiting the area with World Bank officials to study the problem. APF personnel lobbed teargas shells to quell the crowd. Nearly dozen were injured in Saturday’s clashes. Nnnn CA ELECTIONS NECESSARY SAYS SUSHIL KOIRALA Kathmandu, 15 June: President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Sushil Koirala has said that fresh election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) was essential to find a way out of the existing political and constitutional crisis in the country and there was no situation to postpone it, RSS reports. Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 20th anniversary of the Naya Bikalpa weekly here Saturday, NC President Koirala said there was no alternative to the CA election to strengthen democracy which has faced more challenges as nationality has become weaker. Election was the means of ensuring people's supremacy, he said, urging those parties opposing the election to take part in it being responsible towards the country and people. Also speaking on the occasion, NC leaders Deepkumar Upadhyay and Dr Minendra Rijal said a new constitution was a must to attain peace, political stability and economic progress in the country and the election was the door to the new constitution. President of Federation of Nepali Journalists ( FNJ) Shiva Gaunle, Nepal Press Union President Kiran Pokhrel and Chairman of Nepal Reporters' Club Rhishi Dahamala stressed that media has a role of vigilant in drafting the democratic constitution. Weekly's publisher and chief editor Damodar Prasad Dawadi pledged to advocate for democracy through the means of newspaper. Hari Binod Adhikari, Dharma Raj Gautam and Kedar Manandhar were honoured on the occasion. nnnn
