FURTHER DETAILS OF FLOOD HAVOC Kathmandu, 18 June: Tikapur and surrounding villages inundated by rising Karnali. “Our priority is rescue and then get relief to the people who have to be taken to safer places,” said regional officer Atma Pandey of the far-West. Bad weather is hampering relief work. Helicopters from Bhaurawa couldn’t in Tikaapur with relief materials, he said. Slight weather improvement was reported Tuesday but river levels continue to rise. “Wwe have to save people,: he added. Thelevelmof Narayani river is rising Naalparasi where watershaven;t entered villages. But a threat looms. Bjimduttaa municipality in Kanchanpur has been inundated. Seti river has entered villages in Baitadi. Radhapur in Bardiya is completely under water. One hundred houses are under water. Nineteen persons are missing, many among them feared dead with in Kalikpt. Government is sending a team with Ra.10 million in case and 500 tents for the flood victims. Former King Gyanendra called for immediate relief for the affected people in a statement.Tuesday. “The whole area looks like an ocean,” a commentator said.
