BLASTS IN GAYA CONDEMNED

Kathmandu, 8 July: The Youth Buddhists Group, Kathmandu has condemned the Sunday multiple bomb blasts carried out allegedly by terrorists at the premises of Bodhgaya Buddhist Temple at Bihar State of India, RSS reports..

All the Buddhist followers are shocked at the destructive activities in the Buddhist holy shrine where Lord Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment and are saddened by the act, the group said in a press statement here on Monday.

Such activities intended at destroying the world heritage site with high historic and religious value and thereby jeopardizing religious, social and communal harmony are highly condemnable, the statement said.

The group has also urged the Indian central government to make arrangements for safety of other Buddhist shrines in India.

The Bodhgaya is located some 130 kilometers south of Patna, the capital of Bihar state.

SECRETARIES GIVE SUGGESTIONS UPDATE

Kathmandu, 8 July: The Electoral Constituency Delineation Commission (CDC) was suggested by high-ranking government officials to work by ensuring maximum benefit and minimum damage, RSS reports..

At an interaction with the Chief Secretary, Parliament-Secretariat General Secretary and government secretaries on Monday, the CDC was also urged to consider the present state of administration and law and order, the atmosphere leading up to the November 19 elections, the mood of the general voters and the political parties before reaching to any conclusion in delimiting the constituencies.

They also were of the view that the work of the Commission should be satisfying to the people at large.

"The Commission was suggested to delimit the constituencies considering the population growth and by analyzing the previous elections" said Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister Krishna Hari Banskota.

Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel, General Secretary of Parliament Secretariat Manohar Bhattarai, government secretaries and high-ranking officials took part in the deliberations organized by the Commission.

WORLD BANK INVESTMENT

Kathmandu, 8 July:: The International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group has agreed to provide 207.26 million US dollars (equivalent to NRs 19,922 million) assistance to the government of Nepal for the implementation of three different projects, RSS reports..

Of the total assistance, 125 million US dollars will be provided as grant assistance and remaining 82.26 million US dollars as loan assistance.

The WB assistance will be used for the ongoing implementation of School Sector Reform (Rs. 9,612 million), for Poverty Alleviation II (Rs. Rs.7,690 million) and for Kali Gandaki A Hydropower Plant Rehabilitation Project (Rs. 2,620 million).

Separate Memorandum of Understandings to this end were signed amidst a programme at the Finance Ministry on Monday.

Finance Secretary Shantaraj Subedi and WB Country Manager for Nepal Ms. Tahaseen Sayed signed on the agreements on behalf of their respective sides.
On the occasion, Secretary Subedi has expressed its sincere appreciation to the WB for the assistances and for its continuous assistance in the socio-economic development of Nepal.
