LAWYERS ADVISE CAUTION AGAINST BIG CHANGES IN ELECTORAL CONSTITUENCIES UPDATE
Kathmandu, 4 July:  Lawyers have suggested the Constituencies Delineation Commission (cdc) not to make any significant change in the existing number and area of electoral constituencies, RSS  reports.
At a programme organised by the Commission at New Baneshwor on Thursday, they suggested the Commission to continue the 205 electoral constituencies and make little changes on the remaining 35 constituencies.

Former Chief Secretary and advocate Tirthaman Shakya said that changes could be made only in the 35 electoral constituencies, that were increased earlier as per Article 63 (3) of the Interim Constitution 2007.

The lawyers also suggested not to reduce the number of constituencies except in Kavre district as population of the districts, where constituencies were added, has increased.

Earlier, 35 electoral constituencies had been added in 25 districts.

Nepal Bar Association Chairman Hari Krishna Karki suggested the Commission to move ahead by keeping the previous constituencies as it is except those which need some changes.

Karki said there is a provision in the constitution that changes could be made only in the additional constituencies.

More than one dozen advocates and lawyers including senior advocates Radhe Shyam Adhikari, Harihar Dahal and Saritaraj Bhandari were present on the occasion.
