Cabinet approves govt. programme policy

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: The cabinet approved a government plan and programme to be presented to the CA by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.
The plan and programme of the government headed by Maoist Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda was adopted Tuesday by the cabinet with amendments after separate programmes were presented by six ruling parties.
Government spokesman Krishna Bahadur Mahara said the amended programme presented originally by Maoists has 80 to 90 provisions.

CPN-UML general convention in capital from 16 to 21 Feb 2009

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: The delayed CPN-UML general convention will be held in the capital for five days from 16 to 21 February 2009, the party said.
The central committee took a decision Tuesday.
The committee also directed standing committee members Pradip Nepal, Sahana Pradhan and Bhim Rawal to offer self-criticism for indiscipline.
Rawal has already confessed.

Nine-hour curfew slapped in Siraha

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Siraha administration slapped a nine-hour curfew from nine in the evening Tuesday to six in the morning Wednesday to facilitate the movement of vehicles along the national highway after a sixth consecutive strike called by ruling MJF.
MJF called the strike demanding the main constituent in government CPN (Maoist) returned seized assets.

Congress parliamentary party meeting finally held

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Ailing Party President Girija Prasad Koirala on demand chaired a meeting of the Nepali Congress party appointing Sher Bahadur Deuba to chair the assembled meeting to end a controversy.
The action in effect means Koirala has appointed Deuba to lead the main opposition in the CA in his absence.
The meeting that began Sunday was disrupted when Deuba made attempts to chair the meeting in Koirala’s absence.
The main agenda of the meeting as to discuss a statute for the parliamentary party with amendments.
