‘Great debate’ in CPN (Maoist) may be taken to general convention

Kathmandu, 19 Nov: A ‘great debate’ that has started in the CPN (Maoist) and surfaced in public between Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s ‘transitional republic’ and a hard-line demand for a people’s republic will be taken to a general convention if the issue isn’t; resolved Wednesday by the central committee Wednesday.
Central committee member Dinanath Sharma told this to Radio Nepal.
The issue will be taken to the general convention if the national workers’ meet which begins one day later Thursday also doesn’t agree on the differing political perceptions.
Organization Chief Mohan Kiran Baidya pressed for an immediate people’s republic through revolt while Prachanda wants to consolidate gains of the declaration of a republic termed a revisionist stance by Kiran.
The debate has coincided with the launch of drafting a constitution that has to be completed by May 2010.
Main opposition Nepali Congress it will resist declaration of a communist system after bringing the CPN (Maoist) into the political mainstream with foreign conspiracy, including Indian.
Moderate Maoist leader Sharma told state radio, ”There’s no alternative to unity.”
The central committee will again attempt Wednesday to prepare a common political concept after failing to do so Tuesday at a meeting between Prachanda and Kiran.
“Differing opinions are nothing new,” Sharma said adding such differing perceptions persisted during the people’s war as well.
Sharma hoped ”Maoists won’t split’ because of ‘responsible leadership’ but admitted the differences ‘ are serious’.
’”For a long time there has no discussion on ideas in the party. Environment this time is different with a moiré open and independent,” Sharma added.

Two YCL abducted youth dug out of grave
Kathmandu, 19 Nov: Bodies of two youth of the capital abducted by Maoist YCL in Dhading one month were dug out of a shallow riverbed grave Tuesday.
Bodies of Nirmal Pant and Pushkar Dangoil were pulled out, police confirmed.
They were abducted from Malekhu where they were having a meal.

China increases 100 duties on Nepali exports
Kathmandu, 19 Nov: China has increased 100 percent duties on all Nepali exports, Rishiram Paudel reports from Bhautara in Kantipur.
Exports have lost their competitive edge adversely affecting it.
The fresh increase was slapped one month ago.
