Chinese foreign minister Yang meets president

Kathmandu, 4 Dec: Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held discussions with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav before winding his thee-day Nepal visit Thursday.
Yang files to Myanmar Thursday on the second leg of his foreign visit before returning home.
Yang said Wednesday,” China’s goodwill always remains for protecting Nepal’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Govt. official shot and injured in Janakpur

Kathmandu, 4 Dec: Mohottari Local Development Officer Krishna Chandra Mishra was seriously injured after an armed group dragged him out of his home in Janakpur overnight and shot him in the chest.
The Madeshi government official is undergoing treat at a hospital in the Kathmandu where he was airlifted for urgent medical attention.
Janatantrik Teari Mukti Morcha (Rajan) has claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt.
Violence continues unabated in the terai.
Official talks between government and rebel groups haven’t got underway to address regional concerns.
One passenger was burnt alive and many others escaped when a bus was torched this week in Sunsari.
Two motorcyclists were injured overnight in retaliatory police firing at a village in Saptari after assault.

Visit of US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Baucher off

Kathmandu, 4 Dec: Nepal visit of US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Richard Baucher has been cancelled, Kantipur reports.
He was due to arrive Tuesday.
The foreign ministry said US embassy notified the visit’s cancellation.

Nine students described as ‘terrorists’ sent back from Malta


Kathmandu, 4 Dec: Nine Nepali students were sent back with the ‘terrorist’ tag from Malta where they had gone for studies, Naya Patrika reports.
Officials at the airport told the students,” Five months ago you toppled the king; you are Maoist terrorists.”
Students were jailed for two days before being sent back.
Students has gone to the island state for enrolment at EIE College for a BBA degree.

Fellow student involved in teenager killings

Kathmandu, 4 Dec: A youth has been arrested for the murders of two teenagers from Tahachal, Kantipur reports.
A crude pistol, two bullets and a mobile set have been recovered form Rajendra Pandit.
The three were studying together at a school.
According to police, Rajendra owed Ritesh Rauniyar Rs 6,000 for a mobile set purchase.
Police claim Rajendra conspired with Birendra Pandit and Dipak Mahoto, not from the school, to kill Rauniyar and Ashish Manandhar.
Rajendra is being produced at the court Thursday.
