Nepal tourist arrival jumps despite recession in the West
Kathmandu, 3 Dec: Tourist arrivals in Nepal from USA, Canada and EU member states jumped November despite a recession in the West, including USA.
Altogether 36,851 tourists flew in in November compared to the same month the previous year—a 6.6 percent jump in arrivals, Tourism Ministry said.
Altogether 344,599 tourists have visited Nepal in the first 11 months of 2008—a 4.3 percent increase in arrivals compared to the 2007.
Tourism is the mainstay of the Nepali economy.
Trekking along the Himalayan foothills is popular during the autumn/winter season.
“The global recession, especially n US and Europe, has not hit tourists arrivals by air, the ministry said.
Arrivals from USA, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden increased.
Famed for the world’s tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, Nepal is celebrating 2011 as Visit Nepal Year. Nnnn
Constituent assembly adjourned until further notice

Kathmandu, 3 Dec; The constituent assembly (CA) that acts as a parliament and a body to draft a new constitution was postponed until further notice by Chairman Subash Nemwang Tuesday.
The CA was adjourned to facilitate the formation of 14 committees to draft the basic law; work on it hasn’t begun even five months after the assembly was called into session.
The main drafting committees 10 subject committees and three procedures committees have to be formed.
The main drafting committee will represent all 25 parties in the assembly.
Main opposition Nepali Congress, charging democracy has been derailed by Maoists, charges CPN ( Maoist) is sidelining the drafting of the constitution after the declaration of a republic by the CA.
