Five marooned rescued in Banke

Kathmandu, 8 Oct: Five marooned on treetops were rescued in Banke Thursday in the far-West and the body of a person swept away by a swollen river in Kanchanpur was also recovered.
Floods an landslides triggered by an extended and heavy monsoon has left behind a trail of death and destruction throughout the country, particularly in the hill and plain districts of the mid and far-West.
Monsoon normally ends late September.
Internal flights wer disrupted by bad weather Thursday as well.
More than 50 persons have been killed, infrastructure has been damaged and agriculture land and crops have been destroyed causing millions of rupees in damage.
A low pressure system developed over India’s Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhanda states 3 October and entered Nepal’s mid-West one day later, weatherman Rajendra Prasad Shrestha said.
The system has now moved to west, central and eastern regions, he added.
The Valley is experiencing rain Thursday.

EU troika delegation continues consultations

Kathmandu, 8 Oct: Visiting EU troika delegation held discussions Thursday with Bidya Bhandari as she demanded an amendment in a comprehensive peace agreement with Maoists though political to enhance the capability of Nepal Army.
EU member countries are soft towards Maoists who have threatened a movement after tihar.
The delegation held discussions with CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and is scheduled to meet Chairman Prachanda Thursday.
Later Thursday, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal will hold consultations with the visitors who have arrived amid a brewing political crisis.

Three announce candidature for NRN leadership

Kathmandu, 8 Oct: Three persons have announced their candidacy for president of Non-resident Nepali Association International Coordination Council (NRN-UCC) meeting in the capital from 13 to 15 October.
Ram Pratap Thapa, Bhim Udas and Dev Man Hirachan announced they candidacy Wednesday.
Thapa is a banker based in Germany; Udas in a UN employee while Hirachan tourism entrepreneur based in Japan.
Incumbent President Rajendra Mahoto cannot compete after completing three consecutive two-year terms.
