Floods, landslides continue havoc in far-West; other details [DEVELOPING STORY]

Kathmandu, 7 Oct: Floods and landslides have killed several dozen people and thousands of people have been displaced during the festive season in the mid and the worst affected far-West districts, fresh reports from the area said Wednesday.
Floods and landslides have created havoc causing millions of rupees in damage in the hill and plain districts displacing thousands of people to jungles and schools as standing crops on thousands of acres of agricultural land have been destroyed.
Physical infrastructure has also been damaged extensively.
Landslides triggered by incessant rains since Sunday have killed 30 people in the worst-affected hill district of Accham.
Two persons were killed and two others were injured in Doti as well..
A swollen river Wednesday swept away two persons in Jumla where 15 houses have collapsed and movement of people has restricted.
One person was swept away by a swollen river in Dailekh as well.
Nepalgunj and adjoining three dozen VDCs have been inundated by flood waters.
Nepal Army and Nepal Red Cross have been mobilized.
A water project has been damaged in Khalanga, Jumla.
Manang and Lamjung have also been also affected by heavy rain.
People have been pinned down to their homes in district headquarters in Manang.
A 144MW hydro project has been closed down in Syangjha following heavy rain while Kaligandaki river recorded the heaviest rainfall in100 years.
Jhapa has also been hit by bad weather.
Weatherman Rajendra Kumar Shrestha said monsoon hasn’t yet withdrawn from Nepal as it moves east hitting Jhapa from the mid and far-West.


Scheduled meeting of parliament hasn’t started

Kathmandu, 7 Oct: The scheduled meeting of parliament didn’t start even one hour after the scheduled 3 PM time Wednesday.
Maoist leaders, including Dr Baburam Bhattarai, said they will continue the four-month disruption of parliamentary session until their demands are met.

Five dead in Palpa bus accident
Kathmandu, 7 Oct: Five persons, including two children, died Wednesday when a bus fell 150 meters off a highway in Palpa.
Twenty-seven of 32 passengers were seriously injured in driving rain.
Two also died and 10 were injured, four seriously, in a micro-bus accident in Nawalparasi.

Nepali dead in USA

Kathmandu, 7 Oct: Balram Gautam, 23, from Woodward died at the scene of the crash on Oklahoma Highway 50 about 13 miles north of Mooreland, reports from USA said quoting police.
He suffered head injuries.


The crash occurred shortly after midnight at an unspecified date when the victim's northbound vehicle left the roadway, then came back across the roadway and left it on the other side.
The patrol says the vehicle then struck an embankment and rolled three and one-half times, coming to rest on its top.


Troopers say the victim was pinned in the vehicle for about 90 minutes.
