Maoist seize of streets continue; Maoists to intensify protests from Wednesday

Kathmandu, 4 May: Maoists seized streets in urban areas of the country, including the capital, disrupting the movement of people and vehicles for the third consecutive day Tuesday inconveniencing people who have been confined to their homes.
Thousands of activists of the main opposition demanding the formation of a national government under its leadership ghearoed the ring road for one hour later after in a what they campaign called ‘Red Ring Road Gherao Campaign”.
Maoists decided to intensify their campaign to topple government Tuesday as a meeting of central leaders chaired by Pushpa Kamal Dahal decided to stop the entry of ministers into Singha Durbar, the central secretariat from Wednesday.
The top Maoist leaders also decided to involve Newars in the Valley Wednesday for their anti-government campaign.
Maoists smashed more than one dozen shops in Anamnagar in the capital as traders defied the strike and opened shutters; violence broke out in Pokhara where activists of the main opposition attacked sand labourers.

Nepali Congress and UML Tuesday reviewed their separate intra-party discussions with Maoists Monday to draw up a strategy to handle Maoist demands.
