Prakash Man Singh lend Ram Chandra Paudel support
Kathmandu, 23 June: NC Vice-chairman Prakash Man Singh has extended support to another Vice-chairman and Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Paudel should the largest party in the ruling coalition from a government to succeed Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Singh, son of Ganesh Man Singh, joined the rebel NC (Democratic) led by Sher Bahadur Deuba after a split with NC and the two have since reunited.
Acting Party Chairman Sushil Koirala has also extended support to Paudel.
‘Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is ready to resign. The country shouldn’t be held hostage just because the general convention is approaching. The Congress should now lead the government,” Singh said Tuesday in the capital.
‘The leader of the parliamentary party is the leader of government. There’s no alternative to this,” Singh added.
Deuba and Paudel have staked claims to lead the next government amid division in the party.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala said Tuesday the present Nepal government could continue until the general convention slated for August end.
“The resolution of the country’s problem is more important than leading the government. This is not the time to takeover the leadership of government,”
Culture Minister Dr Minendra Rija said in Ilam Tuesday leadership of government is an unnecessary debate.
“The party has started unnecessary debate. It’s not sure whether the Nepali Congress is going to lead the next government,” Rijal said.
He accused UML Chairman Jhalanth Khanal for seeking the prime ministerial post.
