Prachanda for PM proposal rejected by majority vote (BREAKING NEWS)
Kathmandu, 21 July: A Maoist proposal to elect Chairman Prachanda third prime minister of a republican Nepal was defeated by a majority vote in parliament Wednesday, Speaker Subash Nemwang announced.
Prachanda got only 242 votes of the required 300 votes; altogether 592 lawmakers were present during voting.
Nemwang said 114 lawmakers voted against the Maoist chief and 236 members abstained.
Voting is now being held for NC Vice-chairman Ram Chandra Paudel who also won’t get a majority.
A vote will be held for Jhalanath Khanal’s candidacy after the result of Paudel’s candidacy is announced.
