DEAILS OF SUSHIL KOIRALA’SHOSPITALIZATION

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 21 Sept.: Newly-elected NC President Sushil Koirala, a throat cancer patient ,began his four-year tenure of the party presidency Wednesday on an ill omen after being admitted to Teaching Hospital for treatment of cold and chest infection.
Doctors immediately put him on intravenous antibiotic treatment after two antibiotics didn’t control his fever.
Doctors put him on intravenous antibiotic treatment to clear a chest infection, a doctor treating him said.
He’s expected to stay in hospital for five days.
Koirala, is a cousin of Girija Prasad Koirala who nominated him acting party president, and his claim to party leadership has been legitimized by a convincing victory.
Challenging responsibilities have come with the victory.
He has to unify the party split between the Koirala and Sher Bahadur Deuba camp to regain the party’s predominant role in Nepali politics now dominated by communists.
NC is no longer the country’s biggest political party.
An equally challenging responsibility for Koirala is to proclaim a constitution institutionalizing values of liberal parliamentary democracy in a constituent assembly dominated by communists.
Maoists have repeatedly voiced their opposition to parliamentary democracy and threaten another revolt to proclaim a people’s republic.
An equally challengingressponsibility for KOirala is to institutionalize a declared republic delayed by one year.
