Kathmandu, 8 April: A second tripartite summit of three ruling parties in two days- Maoists, UML and MJFN—to expand government was again inconclusive Friday.
MJF is demanding four ministries against the offer of three by UML and Maoists and while Maoists are demanding control of the home ministry described as a
security related ministry that shouldn’t be handed to Maoists by a section in thepartyof Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s party until the peace process is
completed.
Khanal told a public meeting in the capital the delayed expansion
will be completed in a ‘day or two’.
Khanal was elected 3 February with Maoist support and has formed only a small eight-member cabinet with four members each from UML and Maoists.
“Some technical issues have yet to be resolved,” MJFN Chairman Upendra Yadav said.
Maoist office bearers meeting Friday decided UML was not serious
on implementing a 7-point agreement between UML Chairman Khanal and Prachanda and decided not to immediately send more representatives to government,
according to Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha..
The party decided to conduct more consultations with UML on the agreement that ensured Khanal’s election 3 February.

CONSTITUTIONAL COMMITTEE MEET AGAIN DISRUPTED
Kathmandu, 8 April: Four members of the main constitution drafting committee of the constituent assembly (CA) from two small parties again disrupted proceedings Friday
to discuss differences on articles to be incorporated in a constitution that
has to be promulgated by 28 May.
Assembly again attempted to hurl chairs forcing Chairman Nilambar Acharya to adjourn the meeting until Tuesday.
Small parties are demanding addressing demands of Dalits, Muslims and
indigenous people.
The main committee didn’t take any decision of Maoist Chairman Prachanda to continue as chairman of a sub-committee under theto hasten
Small party leaders charged three big parties of sidelining interests of minority communities to protect their interests in a constitution.

SUSHIL KOIRALA OPPOSES EXTENDING TENURE OF CA
Kathmandu, 8 April: NC President Sushil Koirala told reporters in Gaighat, Udaipur, Friday the tenure of a constituent assembly (CA) can’t be
extended for the second time after 28 May.
He said this as Prime Minister Jhalnath Khanal Thursday suggested the
tenure should be extended again.
Koirala said NC favours a constitution should be promulgated within it can be promulgated is Maoists are serious.
RPP-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa demanded in Jhapa Friday fresh
assembly elections if a basis law isn’t promulgated within the May deadline.

FIRE RAGES CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE
Kathmandu, 8 April: A woman died and 100 houses were destroyed in a
fire that started at Bahadurgunj in Kapilvasthu at 2.30 in the afternoon.
A fire at Salleri, district headquarters of Solokhumbi, overnight destroyed
12 houses and 100 families have been displaced causing damages
estimated at Rs 200 million.
The Salleri fire started from a restaurant.

Eight firefighters from security forces fighting the fire.
Widespread fire during the cureent dry spell has caused extensive damage.

PARLIAMENT COMMITTEE DIRECTS
ACTION AGAINST PEOPLE FAKING VAT BILLS
Kathmandu, 8 April: Parliament’s public accounts committee Friday directed finance ministry to take action against 480 persons faking VAT bills, according to Chairman Ram
Prasad Yadav.
The committee directed the ministry to take action against officials involved.

CASE REGISTERED AGAINST MAOIST LEADER
Kathmandu, 8 April: A case against Unified MCPN-Maoist cadres was
filed in the District Police Office, Beshisahar today [Thursday] in
connection with the murder of Muktinath Adhikari who was the
principal of Lamjung based Panini Sanskrit Secondary School during the
Maoist insurgency nine years ago, The Himalayan Times reports.
Late Muktinath’s wife Indira today [Thursday] filed the case against
Devendra Paudel of Lamjung, Jita, Sadhuram alias Prabhuram Ghimere of Bhorletar and Dhruba Adhikari on Kaski.
Muktinath’s murder is one of the worst crimes against humanity during
the insurgency.
