THARU STRIKE DISRUPTS LIFE IN FAR-WEST

Kathmandu, 9 April: An indefinite strike by Tharu Rajya Parishad Saturday on the second day of an indefinite strike disrupted life especially in the far-West where the indigenous community has a big concentration of the group.
In Kailali, three dozen vehicles moved under heavy security escort.
Tharus are demanding abrogation between Maoists, UML and MJFN describing areas sin the terai as ‘Madesh pradesh’ in a four-point tripartite agreement.
Tharus say they aren’t Madeshis.

PM BRIEFS PRESIDENT

Kathmandu, 9 April :Prime Minister Jhalanatha Khanal Saturday briefed
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav on the peace process constitution drafting
and the law and order, a presidential aide said.
The law and order situation has deteriorated with deadly serial bomb blasts of passenger buses in the terai..
The regular briefing came as a ceremonial president has been expressing
concern with the delayed peace and constitution drafting process; only 49 days remain to promulgate within the second 28 May deadline..
The president has come under fire for suggesting
a constitution should be promulgated by consensus and not through a
two-third vote in parliament as per a constitutional provision.

CHILDREN ADMNISTERED ANTI-POLIO DROPS

Kathmandu, 9 April: Children under five-years were administered
anti-polio drops in a non-controversial 13th national campaign Saturday in seven Himalayan districts during the dry season to eliminate the
crippling disease.

KHAS CHETRIS MEET TO ELECT A NEW LEADERSHIP

Kathmandu, 9 April: Khas Chetris, the largest ethnic group, met for a three-day meet in Biratnagar to elect a new leadership and push their group interests.
Representatives from 38 districts and municipalities are participating,
Following demands by other ethnic communities and push of ethnic politics
by parties, Khas Chetris have also organized themselves in a group.
The group demanded inclusion in indigenous group and proportional
representation along ethnic lines on which there will be no compromise
with government.
