MORE DETAILS OF MAOIST DIFFERENCES WITH UML LEADING GOVT. (UPDATE)
Kathmandu, 8 April: Following a meeting of Maoist office bearers Friday, government decided unilaterally to announce a complete budget for fiscal year 2011/1 2 against the spirit of an agreement between Maoists and Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s UML.
The ruling party also said finance ministry under the finance ministry unilaterally called a meeting of 27parties Saturday without consulting it.
“Serious discussions will be called with the Prime Minister and UML
leadership tomorrow,” Natayan Kazi Shresth said.
He accused Khanal and UML for not forming a mechanism as agreed in the7-point agreement after agreement on a minimum common programme accusing the premier’s party for attempting to run government unilaterally.
Shrestha said UML renegaded on agreement to bring a supplementary budget.
He said government expansion and budget will be taken up only after discussions Saturday.
The latest Maoist position comes as a serious embarrassment for Khanal and UML.
Speaker of parliament Subash Nemwang said Thursday the budget can’t be announced 3 May during the current winter session of parliament.
“It’s not practical and there are so many formalities to be completed. They can’t be met,” Dr. Ram Sharan and finance minister in a NC administration said.

22 TERAI AND 9 MECHI AND KOSI DISTRICTS AFFECTED BY STRIKES (UPDATE)
Kathmandu, 8 April: An indefinite called by Tharu community affected 22 terai districts.
They were protesting the description on the region along India as a “Madesh province’
in an agreement between UML. Maoists and MJFN which has decided to join the communist-dominated government.
The community said the strike will continiue until the description of the region is withdrawn..
A strike by Limbuwan activists affected nine districts on the Kosi and Mechi anchals.
Normal Life was disrupted in 31 of 75 districts Friday.
Limbuwan activists are demanding regional autonomy and suspension of a voters’ update by election commission.

SURESH BASNET ELECTED
Kathmandu, 8 April: Suresh Basnet was elected unanimously elected chief of Nepal Chamber of Commerce by Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) board Friday.
Other executive members were also unanimously elected.
