MAIN CONSTITUTION DRAFTING COMMITTEE MEETS WEDNESDAY


Kathmandu, 31 May: A meeting of the main constitution drafting committed headed by Nilambar Acharya has been summoned called Wednesday.
The committee will to extend the tenure of an empowered five-member sub-committee chaired b Chairman Prachanda with representatives of major parties will discuss its extension.
Its tenure ended 27 May; it was empowered to discuss contentious issues to be included in for a proposed constitution.
Differences between major players were narrowed down from 80 to 21.
The main committee meets after Sunday’s extension of the constituent assembly by three more months Sunday to prepare a first preliminary draft of a constitution. that hasn’t been completed in more than three years.

DR. RAMMAN TRASHIT DEAD

Kathmandu, 31 May: Songwriter Dr. Ramman Trashit died Tuesday.
He was 71.
He was suffering diabetes and high blood pressure.
Trashit penned more than 150 songs for Radio Nepal.

APPA SHERPA RIDICULES POLITICIANS

Kathmandu, 31 May: Appa Sherpa, who improved his personal world record by climbing the 8848 meters high Mount Everest for the 21st time this spring ridiculed Nepal’s politicians to promulgate a constitution in two efforts in three years.
“:I have scaled Mount Everest 21 times. But politicians haven’t succeeded in going beyond base camp,” Appa said while announcing he won’t set foot atop the world’s highest peak again
Appa, who moved to USA four years ago, has made such declarations before.

LUMBUWAN STATE COUNCIL RETURNS SEIZED DOCUMEPTS, LAPTOPS

Kathmandu, 31 May: Federal Limbuwan State Council Tuesday returned documents and laptops of election seized by workers during a drive to collect data for issuing new digitalized voters’ identity cards in east Nepal.
The documents and laptops were returned to commission officials in Sunsari.
The items were returned following a 11-point agreement between the Council and election officials.
The Council had been obstructing the commission work in nine districts beyond Arum river.
The Council also welcomed Sunday’s extension of the constituent assembly tenure.

RECOMMENDATION TO HIKESALARY 25 PERCENT

Kathmandu, 31 May: Pay review committee has suggested a salary hike of officials by 25 percent, Baya Patrika reports.
A 75 percent increase in allowances has also been recommended.
