LAW MINISTER ACCUSES PM FOR APPOINTING PARTY LACKEY TO INDEPENDENT BODY

Kathmandu, 9 June: Law minister Prabhu Shah of MJFN accused Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal Thursday for nominating a UML functionary to the judicial council which he called ‘an independent body”.
He made the accusation at a news conference.
Sah said Khem Narayan Dhungana was appointed without consulting him.
‘I’ve heard he was a member of the disciplinary committee of UML’ Sah said
PM Khanal is chairman of the UML which is leading the three-party government dominated by communists.
The law minister said the nomination was also against the governing style of a coalition government.
Sah parried questions whether he’ll resign after leveling the charges against the government chief.
‘The judicial council is an independent body,” Sah said.

EDUCATION MINISTER SAYS PARTY INTERFERENCE DELAYING APPOINTMENTS OF FOUR VICE-CHANCELLORS

Kathmandu, 9 June: Education Minister Gangalal Tuladhar from UML Thursday charged interference from three parties pressing nominations of their candidates is delaying the appointment of vice-chancellors of four universities.
He heads a committee to appoint chiefs of the universities.
“They parties have met but they haven’t shown their cards,” Tulahdhar said
He revealed he can’t suggest nominations without the support of the parties delaying the appointments.

PM KHANAL ASKS BHUTAN TO CREATE ATMOSPHERE FOR RETURN OF ITS REFUGEES FROM NEPAL

Kathmandu, 9 June: Prime Mnister Jhalanath Khanal Thursday asked neighbouring Bhutan to take back its refugees from camps in east Nepal by creating an atmosphere for their return home.
More than 30,000 refugees of 106,000 plus refugees have been resettled in the West, mostly in the USA.
Khanal, while addressing the Nepal Council of World Affairs, said Nepal has internationalized the refugee issue and asked UN to help.

NEPAL PROMOTED AT SHOPPING MALLS TO ATTRACT INDIAN VISITORS

Kathmandu, 9 June: Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) launched Consumer Promotional Campaign at Shopping Malls in major Indian metros and 2nd tier cities in the months of May / June 2011, NTB said.
Starting from 7/8 May and ending on 11/12 June, the Nepal Promotion Program among Indian Consumers in the malls was conducted in 17 shopping malls from different Indian metro and second tier cities like: New Delhi, Mumbai , Kolkata, Ahmadabad, Jaipur, Pune, Kanpur and Lucknow.
Beautifully designed and decorated Nepal stalls were set up in each mall at vantage locations.
Private Travel Trade Partners provided counters for promotion and direct sales of their Nepal tour packages. The promotional dates were scheduled during week ends (Saturday and Sunday) to ensure maximum footfalls.
Figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) reveal that visitor arrivals in the month of May 2011, compared to the same month last year, have increased by a phenomenal growth of 47.1% to 39,179.
India which constitutes the major market of Nepal, has recorded robust growth of 78.4 % in the month of May 2011 compared to the same month last year contributing to the substantial growth of arrivals in May
