CHHATH FESTIVAL BEGINS

Kathmandu, 29 Oct.: The main rituals of the Chhath festival begins from Chaturthi, the fourth day of the lunar calendar of the month of Kartik under the great festival of Chhath celebrated in the Mithila region, RSS reports.

The festival aims to increase human interest towards truth and non-violence and sympathy to all the living things.

This is the festival in which the rising and setting sun is worshipped.

Utensils needed for this festival are arranged since a month ago. This festival is celebrated for four days- the first day or Chaturthi is called Arba Arbain or Nahan Khan. The devotees discard eating meat, onion and garlic etc. and start fasting on this day. The second or Panchami day is called Kharana, the third is Shasthi and the fourth day is called Paran.

MAOISTS TO CELEBRATE THREE DASAIN, TIIHAR, CHHATH MONDAY
KATHMANDU, 29 Oct.: The UCPN (Maoist) is to host a tea reception to mark the Vijaya Dashami, Dipawali, Nepal Sambat and Chhath festivals on October 31, RSS reports.

A decision to this end was taken Thursday and accordingly the tea party will be held at 1:00 pm at Bhrikuti Mandap on Monday, said Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma.

Meanwhile, the deusi bhailo program organised by the Unified All Nepal People’s Cultural Federation is to continue until today.

The Federation is organising the deusi bhailo marking the Tihar festival in various locations of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur with songs, poems, gazals and caricatures on contemporary issues, according to General Secretary of the Federation, Maila Tamang.

DEEPAWALI CELEBRATION IGNITES FIRE
Kathmandu, 29 Oct.: Property worth Rs. 500,000 was gutted when a fire suddenly broke out Wednesday in the house of Tobir Gurung at Buchakhani of remote Raipur VDC-2 of Tanahun district, RSS reports from Damauli.

The mud house with thatched roof was reduced to ashes, said the Area Police Office Bhimad.

Rs. 58,000 in cash and gold and clothes were destroyed said the family.

The fire started from a candle lit for Deepawali, but no human loss was caused. The family is taking shelter at the neighbour’s.
