GOVT. FORMING COMMISSION TO RESOLVE SQUATERS’ ISSUE
Kathmandu, 28 Nov.: The government has announced to form a High-Level Landless Squatters Problems Resolution Commission within 10 days, RSS reports.
According to Minister for Land Reforms and Management Bhim Prasad Gautam, consensus was made at the discussion with the Joint National Landless Squatters Front to solve problems of the landless squatters by forming a commission within 10 days.
Minister Gautam further said different protest programmes announced by the Front have been withdrawn after the discussion. The Front has agreed to form a five-member team to hold discussion with the government.
Spokesperson of the Front, Bina Buddhacharya said they have withdrawn all programmes of agitation being positive after the government made commitment to solve problems through dialogue by forming a dialogue team.
Buddhacharya further said it is expected that there are four million to six million landless squatters and Kamaiyas across the nation.
Landless squatters have been agitated after the government issued notice to vacate the settlements giving 15 days’ time in the Kathmandu valley.
In the discussion held at the Office of the Prime Minister at Singha Durbar, Minister for Land Reform and Management, Minister for Environment, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chief Political Advisor of the Prime Minister from the government side and seven members of the Front were present.
