PETITION AT SUPREME COURT TO REVIEW
LANDMARK VERDICT ON CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY
EXTENSION
Kathmandu, 26 Dec.; As expected, the Office of the Prime
Minister and parliament secretariat Monday registered a petition
at parliament secretariat asking for a review of a landmark
verdict the present six-month extension of the constituent assembly would be the last.
The verdict was delivered 25 November.
Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi said Sunday the verdict was
binding.
Government and parliament are preparing for another extension fearing a basic law won’t be promulgated by the extended 28 May deadline.

SUPREME COURT STAYS FIRST GOVT.ORDER FOR
MASS RECRUITMENT OF MADESHIS IN STATE ARMY
Kathmandu, 26 Dec.: Supreme Court single bench of Baijanath Upadhaya Monday stayed a first decision to recruit en masse
3,000 Madeshsi youth in Nepal Army.
A cabinet took the decision which has since been rectified following protsts by parties outside government.
They’ll now be recruited by competition to fill in vacancies.
Two writs were filed at the apex court asking for a stay order.
