457 PRISONERS AMNESTIED ON NATIONAL DEMOCRACY DAY

457 PRISONERS RELEASED

Kathmandu, 19 Feb.: Altogether 457 prisoners were amnestied by commuting the remainder of their prison sentences Sunday.
The prisoners were released to mark the 62nd national democracy day.

FORM OF GOVERNMNT DISCUSSED BY PRACHANDA SUB-COMMITTEE

Kathmandu, 19 Feb.: There was no agreement Sunday at a Prachanda-led sub-committee under a main constitution drafting committee to
discuss differences on themes to be included in a constitution scheduled to for promulgation 28 May.
The sub-committee was adjourned until Monday after Sunday’s discussions of forms of government.
Maoists are urging a presidential system while main NC is advocating a parliamentary system in which a government chief is elected by parliament.
UML is advocating a directly elected premier.

STAMP ISSUED TO MARK GOLDEN JUBILEE OF RSS

Kathmandu, 19 Feb. A postage stamp was issued Sunday by the Postal Service Department to mark the golden jubilee of Rashtriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).
RSS is the country’s only national news agency wholly owned by government.

DEVOTEES BEGIN ARRIVING FOR MONDAY’S SHIVA RATRI CELEBRATIONS
Kathmandu, 19 Feb.: Mobility of saints and sages coming from various parts of the country and abroad is visible at Pashupati area when the Mahashivaratri is round the corner.

The movement of saints and devotees has increased in the sacred religious site as the day of Shivaratri (special worship to Lord Shiva) this year falls on Monday.

Monday is deemed the special day to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

Around 8,000 sages, saints and naked babas have so far arrived at the Pashupati area from various parts of the country and different Indian provinces, said Treasurer of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT), Narottam Baidhya.

Lodging and food accommodation has been arranged for the saints and sages arrived from various placed with the assistance of Trust, Guthi and various organizations.
