NEFIN WITHDRAWS ALL PROTESTS Kathmandu, 8 June: Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) has called off all programmes of agitation after the decision of the government of providing Rs. one million to the family of Dhan Bahadur Tharu Thanet by declaring him Martyr, RSS reports. According to Chairman of the NEFIN, Raj Kumar Lekhi, welcoming the decision of the Council of Ministers, the NEFIN and the Tharu Struggle Committee have withdrawn all the protest programmes. Thanet, who was injured from a bullet of police at Danda in Nawalparasi on May 9, died while undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, on Tuesday night. The body of Thanet had been taken to Nawalparasi this morning and his funeral rites will be performed at Narayani River today, said Lekhi. The NEFIN had released different programmes of agitation including Tarai banda demanding that the government should declare Thanet a Martyr. RSS Nnnn PM CALLS FOR INCREASED SECURITY Kathmandu, 8 June: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has made commitment to hold the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections on the slated date, RSS reports from Pokhara.. Speaking at the Armed Police Inspectors Basic Training and Convocation Programme run at the Armed Police Force Training College Lampatan, the prime minister said the government was making all out efforts for the next CA elections as the CA was dissolved when the country was just on the threshold of change. He also expressed the confidence that APF will play a key role in the elections as the country is still in transition. Some 77 armed police personnel got the convocation after one-year training under S. No. 9.At the programme, DPM and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar called on all the security bodies to maintain law and order at this transitional period. nnnn
