RSS COFIRMS 13 KILLED BY LANDSLIDES IN KALIKOT
Kathmandu, 18 June: Twelve people died and two were injured at Mumra VDC in Kalikot district this morning due to landslides triggered by incessant rainfall for the past three days, RSS reports from Klaikot..
The deceased are identified as Kala Thapa (35) of Mumra-1, Kamara Shahi of Sipkhana-2, her five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, Satya Shahi of Sipkhana-2, his wife Sarita Shahi, five-year-old son and three-year-old daughter.
Similarly, others killed in the incidents were Man Bahadur Shahi of Mehalmudi-4, an overseer Krishna Neupane of Phukot-7, another overseer Takka Bahadur Bam of Thirpu and Chanchala Shahi of Sipkhana-2, according to Ramesh Kumar Pokhrel, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Kalikot.
Suraj Shahi of Sipkhana-2 and Brish Bahadur Shahi of Mehalmudi-4 were injured in the incident. Bodies of eight people were found and the remaining are still missing, said locals.
Locals and security personnel have now been carrying out rescue operation at the incident site, said police. Chief District Officer, Jagat Bahadur Basnet, said that teams of the Nepal Army and Nepal Police have been deployed to the incident site for the rescue.
Property worth tens of thousands of rupees has been destroyed in Mehalmudi due to the rainfall. It also destroyed seven houses at Sipkhana-2. According to the District Police Office, the flood also swept away one wooden bridge and a suspension bridge.
Media houses in the district have remained closed due to disruption of electricity service after landslide swept away intake, transfer machine, 10 electric poles and delivery machine of Potara-based power house.
Jitgeda and Lalighat Bazaar have been inundated. The flood has swept away a grocery shop and three houses of Manma Bazaar. Vehicles have been stranded at different places after the disruption of the Karnali Highway.
The only banking service in the district has also been disrupted due to lack of electricity service.
