Ridiculous Indian embassy demands

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 3 April : The Indian embassy in a formal communication to the foreign ministry on 13 March made a ridiculous demand it issue a statement on the alleged shoplifting from a department store by Mrs Nalini Mukherjee, the wife of Indian ambassador Shib Shankar Mukherjee.
The Indian embassy denied the report published in People’s Review.
Will or can the Nepal embassy in New Delhi ask the External Affairs Ministry to issue a statement on each and every slanderous issued in the Indian media?
Will the ministry in Delhi oblige the Nepali embassy?
The Indian embassy claims the report will ‘damage’ relations between Nepal and India. How? A shoplifting report to damage relations? Preposterous.
Mukherjee has been appointed ambassador to Great Britain but has been asked to continue in Nepal until elections are over.
The text of the Indian embassy letter was sent to the weekly newspaper through the Press Council which isn’t concerned about such reports appearing against Nepal and Nepali personalities at home and abroad.
The Council, on Indian and government pressures, asked the newspaper to print a contradiction.
The department store has never identified the woman shoplifter as it should have to punish a person for impostering- a felony.
Nnnn
