EU, USA express concern

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 5 May: In a second reaction in two days, European Union heads of mission (Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, United Kingdom and European Commission) and the representative of The Netherlands in Kathmandu expressed their serious concern Tuesday over the current political developments in Nepal and over what they called the damaging consequences for the peace process, an official statement said.
Norway, which Prime Minister Prachanda visited before resigning, wasn’t a signatory to the statement.
A Norwegian Minister revealed he held mobile contacts with rebel leader Prachanda when Maoists were still on the terrorist list of Nepal, India and USA before they won elections and joined government..

“We call on all political parties to act responsibly and in accordance with democratic principles. There can be no place for violence. It is important that the present political challenges are resolved through dialogue and by peaceful constitutional means. We urge all political parties to find common ground for peace and stability in the national interests of Nepal,.” the statement said..

The statement was supported by the Embassy of the USA.
Nepal and Nepalis are now experiencing and suffering the effects of foreign intervention that led to the overthrow of the 238-year old monarchy that established extreme Maoists in power in Nepal determined to establish communist rule in the Himalayan state.
Foreign powers, including India and USA, expected liberal democrats, to control events after the overthrow of King Gyanendra in 2005 but Maoists were elected in direct elections.
They and defeated political parties are now trying to overturn the electoral verdict, as claimed even by Maoists.
But the one-time election of the constituent assembly and parliament dominated by Maoists can’t be overturned like dissolving parliament.
