Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala leaves for China

Kathmandu, 8 Sept: Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala flew for Beijing Tuesday for a six-day to prepare an environment for Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal’s China visit this autumn.
Koirala said she will discuss economic issues and seek assistance for the construction of flyovers in the capital to ease traffic congestion.
She discussed Chinese security assistance with chiefs of Nepal Army and Nepal Police ahead of the China visit.
She is visiting China at the invitation of Foreign Minister Yang Jeichi.
But a meeting sought with President Hu Jintao hasn’t yet been confirmed.
The foreign ministry said political issues, hydropower generation, infrastructure development, tourism and agriculture development will be discussed.
China will take up direct investments in Nepal without government agreement as India does, Tarun reports.
China is seeking equal treatment with India, the newspaper reports.

Maoists to discuss of combatants disqualified by UNMIN by mid-Sept: Baldeb

Kathmandu, 8 Sept: A general staff meeting of PLA has approved a manual for the chain of command, Maoist mouthpiece Jahadisha reports.
A meeting since Saturday also gave final shape to the internal directives for training, transfer, promotion and home leave issued some days ago for the running of PLA.
A central-level training camp will be conducted in Chitwan at the end of Bhadra [16 Sept] to discuss the future of combatants disqualified by UNMIN. Company commanders are qualified to participate.
“Their future will be decided only after suggestions are received following widespread discussions,” Commander Baldeb told Janadisha.
The meting that concluded Monday promoted half a dozen commanders to division commanders and more than brigade vice-commanders to one dozen to brigade commanders.
The meeting transferred more than 40 brigade commanders.

Three Madesh parties to continue support for govt.

Kathmandu, 8 Sept: Three ruling parties from Madesh Monday decided to continue support to the Madhav Kumar Nepal government.
But MJFL, TMLP and NSP opposed government withdrawal of perks and privileges for Vice-President Parnananda Jha who hails from terai.

25 Nepalis arrested in El Salvador

Kathmandu, 8 Sept: Twenty-five Nepalis have been arrested by the navy of El Salvador, AP reports.
They were among 76 migrants from Bangladesh, Ecuador and Eritrea aboard a boat off the El Salvador coast.
The Nepalis are being deported.

Panel to ensure bhatta security at Pashupati

Kathmandu, 8 Sept: A panel has been formed by the Pashupatinath Area Development Trust (PADT) to ensure the security of bhattas.temple and visitors at Pashupatinath after an attack on two newly appointed Indian priests by suspected Maoists.
The committee will be headed by an assistant secretary at the home ministry.
The meeting Monday entrusted the PADT chairman to ensure the transparency of the temple income and fix remuneration, allowances and perks of bhattas.
Maoists are demanding appointment of Nepali priests lat the holiest Hindu shrine while the real problem is the transparency on the management of the temple income.

Heroin trafficker arrested

Kathmandu, 8 Sept: Mahendra Giri, 28, was arrested in Kalanki Monday with 840 grams heroin after police intercepted a drug consignment of 816 grams destines for Swaziland in Africa, police said.
Altogether 5,655 grams of heroin worth millions of rupees were recovered in a 16-day Operation Disk.
Giri was involved in trafficking Afghan drugs to Nepal through Pakistan and India concealed in gearboxes and footrests of vehicles.
The drugs were trafficked to the west through Nepal.

Promotion of Maj Gen Toran Jung Bahadur Singh stalled

Kathmandu, 8 Sept: Government hasn’t yet decided even in two months on the recommendation to promote Maj. Gen Toran Jung Bahadur Singh charged for human rights violation, Annapurna Post reports.
The file is pending.
Defence Minister presented the file at the cabinet but Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is sitting on it.
Outgoing Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal presented a recommendation without alternative candidate to replace Lt Gen Kul Bahadur Khadka.
