AMBASSADORS TOLD TO DIRECT MEETING REQUESTS WITH PM THROUGH FOREIGN MINISTRY
PM TO MEET FOREIGNERS IN PRESENCE OF FOREIGN MINISTRY OFFICIALS ONLY
Kathmandu, 15 March: Kathmandu-based diplomats will now have to direct their requests for meetings with the prime minister through the foreign ministry.
“This is not a new provision. The rule is already in place and we have just followed it.
All the meetings with the prime minister so far have been fixed by the foreign ministry,” Milan Tuladhar, foreign advisor of the government chief told Republica.
“I am meeting diplomats only after informing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and I always make such that someone from MoFA
should be there for institutional memory.
“We are here for the sake of the state, not for personal gain,” The Kathmandu Post quoted the prime minister as saying for enforcing an existing rule.
Past attempts to enforce the rule were resisted in the past by ambassadors who sought direct appointments.
Envoys were asked to submit reasons for interviews with the prime minister.
There was one ambassador who had direct access to one the prime minister’s bedroom.
A rule says ministers have to meet ambassadors in the presence of foreign ministry officials only.
