JUDICIAL COMMISSION TO PROBE PRISON SHOOTING

Kathmandu, 14 March : A judicial commission will probe last week’s shooting in central jail by a hired Indian assassin who attempted to shoot dead Yunis Ansari, a Nepali national, Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal told parliament Sunday in his first address to the legislature.
The commission will also review the county’s security situation and suggest recommendations, he said.
Ansari was serving a prison sentence for alleged involvement in fake Indian currency notes and drugs dealing.
The commission head wasn’t named.

NEPALI LAWMAKERS SOLDARITY WITH JAPAN

Kathmandu, 14 March: Nepal’s lawmakers expressed their solidarity Sunday with Japan where a devastating quake and tsunami killed at least 10,000 persons and left behind a trail of destruction, fresh reports said.
They said Japan was Nepal’s largest aid donor.,

SUB-COMMITTEE TENURE ENDS MONDAY

Kathmandu, 14 March: A tenure of a sub-committee to resolve differences on contentious issues to be incorporated in a constitution to be promulgated by 28 May ends Monday.
Chairman Nilambar Acharya, chirm of a main committee to draft a constitution, said Sunday the tenure of the sub-committee may be extended as 38 differences on issues remain to be resolved.
The sub-committee is headed by Maoist Chairman Prachanda .
Time is running out to promulgate a basic law by the second deadline.
Meanwhile, Prachanda charged NC is an obstacle in constitution drafting in far-West Sunday.
He said NC was demanding formation of a state restructuring commission to delay constitution drafting.
Without agreement on proposed constitutions, the size of a bicameral legislature at the center can’t be fixed.
There’s opposition to ethnic based provinces proposed by Maoists.
