CANCER HOSPITAL TO RESUME SERVICE WEDNESDAY
Kathmandu, 3 May: Following the death of at least one patient, Chinese-built BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan, will resume services Wednesday after a week-long disruption.
Hundreds of patients were deprived of specialist services threatening their lives when parties closed down services as they pressed appointment of their candidates as the hospital’s director.
A meeting of parties, doctors, local officials, including CDO Basanta Gautam, and others empowered the health ministry to appoint a director to succeed Dr. Bhaktaman Shrestha who was released after haying a he ranson after abduction last year.
Shrestha was supported by Maoists who opposed the appointment of Dr. Laxman Narayan Singh who is supported by main opposition NC.
In response to a writ, supreme court Tuesday asked government to resume services at the hospital in 24 hours.

THREE KILLED IN DAILEKH TRACTOR ACCIDENT
Kathmandu, 3 May: Three persons were killed in tractor accident at Amlishe in Dailekh Tuesday.
The tractor driver is seriously injured in a 200 meter fall.
The tractor was ferrying cargo from Surkhet to Kalikot.
Twelve persons are confirmed dead in another bus accident in Sindhuli.
More passengers are trapped in a bus stuck in a cliff after it fell off the BP Koirala Highway being constructed by Japan.
A soldier is among the dead.

EU MISSIONS CALL FOR AN INTEGRATED CONSTITUTION BEFORE 28 MAY
Kathmandu, 3 May: Missions of EU member states in Nepal in a joint statement Tuesday asked parties to make more efforts to complete peace process and constitution drafting by agreeing on an integrated constitution by 28 May.
The missions said they have interest and concern and asked for completion of the peace process and promulgate a constitution by 28 May.
The position synchronizes with a Maoist stand; Maoists said a complete constitution can’t be promulgated by 28May.
EU member states are Maoist friendly.
They asked partied to redouble efforts to complete the peace process and constitution drafting.
Missions also asked parties agree on integration of former Maoists and modality for it agreement before 28 May.
WikiLeaks has revealed Denmark, a small Scandinavian country with money power, and other EU member states played a lead role in a changeover from monarchy to a republic three years ago.
Five EU member states have been funding the upkeep of Maoists in 28 camps formerly managed by UNMIN which quit Nepal15 January after a failed four-year effort.
UNMIN operation mission was mainly funded by EU member states as well.

SIX-LANE HIGHWAY LINKING KATHMANDU/BHAKTAPUR INAUGURATED
Kathmandu, 3 May: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal and Japanese Ambassador Tatsuo Mizuono Tuesday jointly inaugurated the 9.1km six-lane Teenkune/Bhaktapur highway.
The existing highway was upgraded
The broad will connects with the Chinese-built Arniko Highway linking Nepal’s capital with Tibet.
Upgrading of the road with Japanese assistance ease the movement of vehicles between Nepal ad Tibet and reduce transport costs.
PM Khanal appreciated continued Japanese assistance even as the world’s third largest economic power suffered three largest natural disasters—the worst after World War II.
Ambassador Mizuono assured continued assistance to Nepal as a good neighbour.

SUSHIL KOIRALA SAYS SUCCSESSFUL US OPERATION AGAINST LADEN IN PAKISTAN ACHEVEMENT IN FIGHT AGAINST INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM
Kathmandu, 3 May: Main opposition NC President Sushil Koirala said Tuesday the death of Osama bin Laden in a US operation in Pakistan was ‘an achievement in the fight against international terrorism’.
Before the statement, Koirala held discussions with US Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi who briefed Deputy Prime Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari on the operation.
The communist government of Prime Minister Jhalanatha Khanal said the death of Laden was an achievement against the fight against international terrorism as well.
Television reports quoting President Barak Obama said Laden was captured before he died in a firefight.

PREM RAJ DEVKOTA REMANDED TO SIX-DAY CUSTODY
Kathmandu, 3 May: Prem Raj Devkota was remanded to six-day custody by Kathmandu district administration Tuesday,
Police registered a charge against him under public offence act for slapping Monday Maoist lawmaker Jhakku Subedi in the capital for delayed promulgation of a constitution.

SQUATTERS EVICTED IN DHANUSHA
Kathmandu, 3 May: Local authorities fired 10 rounds in the air to remove settlers from the state forest at Bharatpur in Bharatpur in Dhanusha , local officials said.
House and hutments were pulled down during the operation.
An estimated 700 squatters encroached forests and settled down.

ABDUCTED CHILD RESCUED IN RAUTAHAT
Kathmandu, 3 May: Child Anil Sah was freed from abductors overnight in during an operation in Rautahat.
Anil was rescued from Rajbehi in the southwest terai district.
