NEW IGP APPOINTED

NEW NEPAL POLICE IGP

Kathmandu, 1 June; AIG Rabindra Pratap Shah has been appointed new Nepal Police IGP.
He has succeeds Ramesh Chand Thakuri who has been appointed security advisor to the prime minister.
Thakuri was replaced without completing his tenure.
He is under CIAA scanner for releasing payment to a company that supplied defective armed personnel carriers (APCS) to police peacekeepers in Darfur, Sudan endangering lives of peacekeepers.
The supplier says the carriers were handed over in good condition and were badly maintained creating problems.

5.8 MILLION HOUSE HOLDS

Kathmandu, 1 June: There are 5.8 million households nation-wide according to a household survey launched 15 May.
The first report is preliminary.
The survey was conducted ahead of a national census held once every 10 years.

MAOISTS WITHDRAWE DOUBLE SECURITY

Kathmandu, 1 June: Maoists have decided to withdraw double security to their leaders
A meeting of party office bearers took the decision Wednesday.
Party standing committee will hold further discussions Friday.
Government had Maoists had been providing security to top leaders.
The decision will take time to implement, a Maoist leader said.
Main opposition NC demanded withdrawal of security provided when Girija Prasad Koirala and Krishna home minister in the Koirala cabinet.
Koirala’s party is now demanding withdrawal security given during Koirala rule.
