FIVE MEMBERS OF FAMILY KILLED IN FIRE NEAR DHANKUTA

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: All five member of a family were killed overnight in a fire which also destroyed the house o Govinda Bahadur Katawal 55 km away from Dhankuta.
Katawal’s wife and three children aged 12 to one year were killed
Rescuers are attempting to pull the bodies out of the collapsed
building.
The fire started at nine in the Wednesday.
Houses of three neighbours were also damaged.

PROTESTS AGAINST PRICE HIKE OF POL PRODUCTS

Kathmandu, 19 Jan. Student and other organizations launched anti-government protests against Wednesday’s hike in prices of petroleum products.
Students affiliated with opposition NC and UML started a
two-hour disruption of vehicular movement in front of campuses in the three Valley districts Thursday.
Thirteen student organizations are meeting later staged Thursday to halkout plans for nation-wide protests.
Maoist students have also expressed their displeasure with the government led by their own party.
One government vehicle was vandalized in Inarawa Thursday during protests against the price hike.

MAOIST POLITCAL TRANING CAMP BEING
CONDUCTED

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: A Maoist political training camp is being
held later Thursday at a garment factory in Lalitpur to discuss
rival political proposals of Chairman Prachanda and first Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya for party adoption.
The party chief, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, who is second vice-chairman of UCPN (Maoist) are addressing the camp in which bureau members of Newa and Tamsaling state committees are
Participating.
The party central committee decided to take the rival proposals
for discussion to lower units following deep differences at the central committee threatening a split which has been temporarily avoided.
The Baidya faction forced the party establishment of Prachanda and Bhattari to take decisions collectively by seven office bearers.
The rival faction charged the establishment was running the
governing party unilaterally.

BALIDAN DIVAS BEING OBSERVED

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: The fifth Bakidan Divas is being observed by Madeshbadi parties Thursday to mark the launch of a regional movement five years ago.
Ramesh Mahoto of Siraha died when the anti-government protests were launched when Girija Prasad Koirala was government chief.
The Madeshbadi parties now call themselves the fourth political force and ar pressing Maoists from inside government to implement regional demands including mass recruitment in Nepal Army and .resumption of distribution of suspended natural citizenship.

NEPAL HOLDS ON TO FIFA RANKING

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: Nepal held on to the FIFA ranking in the latest soccer ranking.
Soccer’s world’s governing body ranked Nepal 153rd;, the Himalayan state in the leading soccer nation in South Asia.
