NC, UML DISCUSS MAOIST ATTEMPT TO SEIZE ASSETS

NC, UML LEADERS MEET

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: Leaders of two main opposition parties
NC and UML Thursday discussed government’s officially
unannounced decision to enforce decisions Maoist parallel
governments during a 10-year insurgency to enforce decisions such as land acquisitions, personal and even legal disputes
Party leaders earlier threatened government boycott and street protests if the decision isn’t corrected.
The Maoist government took the decision even as they agreed to retun seized assets in an agreement with parties while extending a tenure of the constituent assembly until the end of May,
The two biggest opposition parties also decided to take up the government with Madeshsbadi parties in government later Thursday.

STUDENTS THREATEN VALLEY CLOSURE 25 JANUARY

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: Thirteen student unions warned they will
close down the Valley25 January if government doesn’t correct a decision to hike prices of POL products within 24 hours.
The unions, including Maoist, Thursday drew up detailed protests at a meeting in the morning.

TRIPLETS BORN

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: Maya Kharel, 27, has given birth to triplets at a hospital in Butwal.
The mother and male babies are all well.
Maya was admitted to hospital Friday but the births were kept a
secret until Wednesday.

FOUR DIE OF COLD

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: Four persons died on cold in Taplejung and Rukum in the current cold wave.
Jas Bahadur Limbu,70, of Ambegydied-3 and a woman died in
Taplejung.
Two died in Rukum as well.

3.6 PERCENT GDP GROWTH PREDICTED

Kathmandu, 19 Jan. Nepal’s economy will grow by only .6 percent in the current fiscal year, World Bank Global Economy Prospects 2012 said.
In Nepal, remittance from workers accounted for 9.6 percent of foreign currency reserve.
Countries like Nepal, heavily dependent on foreign assistance, could be hit hard if overseas development assistance was cut amid fiscal consolidation in high income countries, the report said.
