By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 4 April: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in concerned with the uncontrolled inflow of international observers for the 10 April constituent assembly elections, Rajdhani reports.
Their presence will be challenging.
Commission Chairman Kedar Nath Upadhaya said the permission for this uncontrolled crowd at polling booths should be stopped by the Election Commission.
Upadhaya was speaking at a programme for national observers and said their presence at booths alongside with competing candidates could be problematic.
He said NHRC could oversee the activities of the observers. According to Upadhaya, election observation is the Commission’s duty and it needed to license to observe the observers.
Upadhaya said it is concerned with protection of people’s rights and can watch the Election Commission as well.
[Note: Upadhaya’s observation is timed with Chairman Prachanda’s observation that observers have come to a relatively small is huge numbers. CPN (Maoist) Chief has charged international observers will invalidate the vote if Maoists are victorious and give a stamp of approval of Congress and CPN-UML are victorious. The bloody election is controversial to begin with anyway.]
