KHAS CHETRIS WITHDRAW MONDAY'S STRIKE

PREMIER’S UML PARTY AGREES TO INTEGRATION OF ONLY MAXIMUM 5,000 MAOISTS IN STATE SECURITY AGENCIES UPDATE

Kathmandu. 22 May: An official final position of the UML heading the communist majority government with Maoists and led by Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, who is also party chairman, proposed Sunday only to an maximum integration of maximum 5,000 former Maoist combatants in state security agencies.
The suggestion presented to a meeting of the party politburo of behalf of the secretariat by General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel.
The politburo will meet again Monday.
Eager foreigners who in the past rushed in at critical moments haven’t flown into the capital this time as the country is heading towards to a possible crisis.
Past visitors came notable from India and EU member states,
‘This is the first official position of the party. Other suggestions were personal,” said party propaganda chief Pradip Gyewali.
UML leaders had suggested 7,000 combatants among 19,000 plus former combatants in 28 cantonments and camps could be integrated in state security agencies.
Maoist standing committee suggested integration of 10,000 fighters under Nepal Army command.
Meanwhile, the central committee which was scheduled for Monday will now be held one day later Tuesday because of the extended politburo
UML proposed the peace process should be concluded in the coming nine weeks—a position close to the main NC demand.

KHAS CHETRIS CALL OFF EXTENDED VALLEY STRIKE UPDATE

Kathmandu, 22 May: Khas Chetris Sunday night called off Monday’s Valley strike following negotiations with government.
The move comes amidst negotiations with government Sundy night amid official agreement to consider Khas demands..
The first day Valley strike Sunday was crippling.
Chetris and Brahmins, the two largest ethnic groups, have reacted against ethnic politics raised after monarchy was toppled by a republic four years ago.
