Kathmandu, 24 May: With only four days remaining to promulgate a constitution—a deadline that won’t be met again—ruling UCPN(Maoist) and main opposition leaders were huddled in discussions Tuesday to discuss .among other issues a 10-point NC demand for constituent assembly (CA) tenure extension.
The main opposition set a Tuesday deadline for Maoists to come up firm proposals to conclude the peace process first
Maoist Chairman Prachanda and NC President Sushil Koirala are being assisted by top aides
Congress is demanding immediate disarmament and integration of 19,000 plus Maoist former fighters as Maoists have decided not to immediately surrender weapons under lock and key at cantonments.
NC is holding talks later with UML as well after dialogue with Maoists concludes.

POLICE REMOVE PICKETERS UPDATE
Kathmandu, 24 May: Police removed picketers forcibly Tuesday morning around the International Convention Center at Naya Baneshwor where meetings of constituent assembly are parliament are held.
Fifty meters around the complex have been declared prohibited area where meetings and movement in groups have been banned.
Security was heavy.
Twenty-five former lawmakers staging a sit-in were arrested.
Separate groups have been staging sit-ins in front of the convnion center demanding constitution by 28 May.

CPN (MAOIST) STRIKE VIOLENT UPDATE
Kathmandu, 24 May: Nearly two dozen vehicles were damaged in a strike by CPN (Maoist) of Matrika Yadv pressing 28 demands.
One dozen vehicles were damaged in Siraha alone.
A taxi was torched in Laltitpur.
The strike has affected terai districts the most.

SUSHIL KOIRALA MEETS AMBASSADORS UPDATE
Kathmandu, 24 May: British Ambassador John called for ‘compromise and flextbility’ in a meeting with NC President Sushil Koirala Tuesday to complete the peace process and promulgate a constitution.
Heads of seven diplomatic missions from EU member states collectively met Koirala Tuesday.
Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood held hour-long discussions Tuesday with Koirala
Sood showed interest and concern at the current situation, a source said. Nnnn
NINE POLICEMEN KILLED IN NAXAL LANDMINE EXPLOSION
Kathmandu.,Nine policemen were killed in a landmine explosion in a jungle on Chhattisgarh/Orissa states in eastern India, radio reports said Tuesday.
The landmines were laid by Naxalites or Indian Maoists.
